Membership Awards & Recognitions
The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists honors individuals in the O&P profession each year in a series of up to eight awards. *All awards are given at the discretion of the Nominating Committee and do not have to be given every year.
TITUS-FERGUSON AWARD
This lifetime achievement award is intended to be the highest level of recognition bestowed upon an outstanding Academician whose accomplishments and contributions have made a significant impact on the growth and development of the profession. This highly dedicated individual must have demonstrated a record of sustained devotion and leadership to the advancement of the Academy and the orthotics and prosthetics profession. The award is intended to be presented as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors to no more than one person per year.
DISTINGUISHED PRACTITIONER AWARD
This award is intended to recognize those members who have distinguished themselves through their personal dedication and leadership to the advancement of the orthotic and prosthetic profession. This individual must have demonstrated a record of sustained contributions and commitment to the advancement of the ideals of the Academy and the profession. The award is intended to be presented as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors to no more than one person per year.
HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
This award is intended to recognize individuals who are closely allied with the orthotics and prosthetics profession, but are not ABC-certified practitioners and therefore not eligible for Academy membership. The recipient of this award should have demonstrated a very high level of knowledge and a dedication to the O&P field. Examples of this dedication would include, but not be limited to, volunteering to give scientific presentations at O&P scientific meetings, collaborating with and mentoring O&P practitioners with research activities, or participating as a volunteer in the ABC certification process. This is a lifetime designation and there shall be no requirement to pay dues. There are no voting privileges nor may the recipient hold Academy elected office. The award shall be presented from time to time, as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.
CLINICAL COMMITMENT AWARD
This award is intended to recognize those Academy members who have quietly demonstrated a commitment to The Code of Professional Responsibility and to improving the professional image of the orthotic and prosthetic profession to patients, co-workers, and colleagues. This award shall be considered for presentation on an annual basis or as deemed necessary by the Board of Directors.
OUTSTANDING EDUCATOR AWARD
This award is intended to recognize an outstanding educator. The educator must have been or currently be associated with at least one of the NCOPE accredited educational programs. This educator must have demonstrated unique didactic or laboratory skills which create a positive and permanent impression on the students he/she teaches.
CLINICAL CREATIVITY AWARD
This award is intended to recognize those individuals who demonstrate high levels of creativity in process or device development that improve orthotic and/or prosthetic patient care.
RESEARCH AWARD
This award is intended to recognize those members performing the most outstanding research in the field of orthotics and prosthetics. The research must have been documented and published or presented as a part of an Academy sponsored scientific education program within the previous three years. This award shall be considered for presentation on an annual basis or as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors.
THE MOHAMED AMIN AWARD FOR HUMANITARIAN SERVICE
The Board may, at its discretion, recognize an outstanding physically disabled individual who has demonstrated the ability to significantly influence and promote the advancement of human welfare through their philanthropic, vocational or avocational activities. This person must be under the care of an Academy member practitioner.
