State-Of-The-Science Conferences
Conference Participants: Please fill out a participant questionnaire
The Academy's State-of-the-Science Conferences (SSCs) serve two equally vital purposes. They offer clinical guidance about those practice fundamentals that have been scientifically validated, defining and encouraging best practices in the field and training programs.
They also identify research priorities that will strengthen the science used to support clinical decision-making in the future.
To date, eight conferences have been held:
Orthotic Treatment of Idiopathic Scoliosis and Scheuermann's Kyphosis - funded by the Centers for Disease Control and in part by the Academy
Post-Operative Management of the Lower Extremity Amputee - funded by the Academy
Orthotic Treatment of Deformational Plagiocephaly, Brachycephaly and Scaphocephaly
Orthotic and Pedorthic Management of the Neuropathic Foot
Prosthetic Foot/Ankle Mechanisms
Outcome Measures in Lower Limb Prosthetics
Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses for Ambulation
The Biomechanics of Ambulation After Partial Foot Amputation
Read the findings of the eight conferences online, and order additional copies to share with your local rehab professionals or specialty practice group by calling the Academy bookstore at (301) 617-7805.
These projects have been funded by a grant from the United States Department of Education Special Demonstration Programs—Projects for Orthotic and Prosthetic Research. The purpose of this program is to provide funding in response to the Department of Education Appropriations Act for one or more projects designed to improve the quality of applied orthotic and prosthetic research and to help meet the increasing demand for provider services.
