Academy Grant

Heightened awareness of the O&P profession. Expanded educational opportunities. Increased emphasis on evidence-based practice. These are just a few of the many benefits that have already resulted from the ambitious initiatives launched by the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (The Academy). These projects have been funded by three consecutive $1 million grants from the U.S. Department of Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration. The Academy was recently awarded a fourth year grant to continue building on the momentum that we are experiencing from our initial programs and creating projects which are sustainable in the future. For a historic look at the programs, view the grant overview presentation.

These projects have been funded by a grant from the United States Department of Education Special Demonstration Programs—Projects for Orthotic and Prosthetic Research. The purpose of this program is to provide funding in response to the Department of Education Appropriations Act for one or more projects designed to improve the quality of applied orthotic and prosthetic research and to help meet the increasing demand for provider services.
