Foreward
C. Michael Schuch, CPO, FISPO
I am pleased to report that manuscript submissions have increased dramatically during the first six months of 1996. In
December, the JP0 board was concerned about the decrease in submissions during 1995, down significantly from
the previous two years. However, the authors in our profession are busy again, and I am continually impressed with
the ever-improving quality of the manuscripts submitted.
Thank you to all who are contributing to our literature.
In the Foreword of the Spring issue of the JPO (Volume
8, Number 2), I introduced two upcoming forum concepts:
Pathology Forum and Outcomes Forum. The calls for submissions and guidelines for authors are included in this issue. I certainly hope the many expert practitioners within
our ranks will feel comfortable submitting their expertise in
these new, important and informative forums.
I have written many times about our ongoing Research
Forum. We are slowly but surely reaching our goal of completing this series of articles; we anticipate the final Research Forum to appear in the Winter 1997 issue. I would
like to sincerely thank Thomas R. Lunsford, MSE, CO, for
his efforts in organizing and guest-editing this important series of articles for our profession. Every profession must
come of age by recognizing and encouraging research, and
Tom certainly has led our profession through this growing
process. He and his wife, Brenda, have personally contributed eight articles in fF0 on this important subject in
addition to recruiting approximately 27 articles by other
authors. I have learned a great deal from the Lunsford
team, and I look forward to their future contributions as
board and reviewer team members. Our profession is indebted to the relentless pursuit of education and understanding of the research process.
In the Winter issue (Volume 8, Number 1), I wrote about
the winners of the 1995 JP0 Article of the Year competition. Congratulations once again to the winners. The awards
were formally presented at the Academy's 22nd Annual
Meeting and Scientific Symposium in Orlando, Fla., this
March. (See photographs 1

This is the second-to-last Foreword I will be writing for
this journal. Next issue, I hope to announce and introduce
the next editor and the new board members and reviewers.
With your support as subscribers, readers and authors, I sincerely look forward to the future and continued progress of
our journal.
Best professional regards,
