To aid individual states in their efforts towards licensing Orthotists and Prosthetists, the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (the Academy) has recognized the need to provide comprehensive and up to date information as well as a "blue print" for state licensure initiatives. Please find the Academy's NEW Licensure Tool Kit at the link below.
In April 2010, the Academy surveyed members in each of the 13 states with a licensure law in effect. The survey was designed to solicit information about licensure and its effects on O&P practice. A follow-up survey was sent to those individuals who were identified in the first survey as having played a role in the implementation of licensure within their state.
The second survey solicited additional feedback on specific questions about the licensure process. The summary of these two surveys are presented here. This, along with the Academy's Licensure Toolkit, provide a wealth of information for those interested in O&P licensure.
In addition to the information provided, several individuals have volunteered to serve as "licensure resources." These individuals were involved in the licensure process in their state and will share their experiences with you if you have a question about O&P licensure, their experience, or want additional information.
