The ICECAST Anatomy minimizes modifications, provides a consistent casting technique, controls elongation and produces an anatomically shaped mold. This workshop will discuss the development of the lCECAST Anatomy and demonstrates the use of the casting system with a transtibial patient model. Research will also be presented on pressure casting for transfemorals along with the advancements in socket materials and silicone technology.

A case study comparison on prefabricated liners to the use of custom molded liners that are used in conjunction with the shuttle system or suspension sleeve. The study will show the molding process involved, the ease of donning, and the elimination of many existing problems.

Discuss a number of topics related to upper and lower extremity pediatric orthotics. The topics will include management of the pediatric hip with an emphasis on cerebral palsy post op stabilization. A new section will cover Obstetrical Brachial Plexus Injuries. This is a common birthing injury that has a natural resolution history, but the severe cases are being managed by pediatric orthotists. An updated section will review various orthoses that are used for contracture management with orthotic joints specifically designed for that purpose. Gary Bedard will be the moderator and a speaker in the program.

Topics will include: ICELOCK 200, ICELOCK 600, cosmetic finishing of the Ceterus, Total Concept and Gaitmaster, direct lamination of the Modular III and Flex-Walk, and an overview of the sprinting feet.

With so many feet and knee joints available for transfemoral amputees, it is not always apparent how the knee joint will react to the characteristics of the foot. This course will examine the interaction between feet and knee joints. There will be a review of normal knee, foot and ankle function. Discussion of foot and knee characteristics will follow. The lecture will utilize a patient model to demonstrate how the characteristics of the foot can have either a positive or negative effect on the function of the knee joint.

Footdrop is not just a sagittal plane deficit. This course starts with an update on gait terminology and definitions. It provides an overview of gait biomechanics functioning in an environment that includes gravity. Muscle function is then discussed relative to the biomechanical chain of events. Finally AFO design and function are added to the mix to see what effects AFOs have on biomechanics, muscle function and gait outcomes.

Examine the current status and development of stance and swing phase dynamic orthotic knee joints by providing an overview and by presenting the outcome of four separate and distinct development projects that have been directed towards addressing the common clinical problem of quadricep weakness. A review of the biomechanical rationale for each of the four designs, the clinical application and selection criteria will be discussed.

This course covers the application and adjustment of both the single axis and the four bar Intelligent Knee. Coursework includes: proper patient selection, application of the prosthesis, alignment, adjustment of stance control and load brake, and programming the microprocessor to allow for variable gait speed. This program identifies a new option in the clinical treatment of idiopathic, adolescent, juvenile, congenital and neuromuscular scoliosis.
