Survey on Cranial Remolding Orthoses

The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists Craniofacial Society is conducting a survey to build a collective body of information about orthotic treatment programs for this unique patient population.

Orthotic Treatment of Deformational Plagiocephaly, Brachycephaly and Scaphocephaly

In the spring of 2004, the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) sponsored a consensus conference on deformational plagiocephaly in Dallas, Texas. Through the efforts of the AAOP's Project Quantum Leap, a grant from the U.S. Department of Education was obtained and used to bring together a panel of medical experts from across the country. These contributors spent two and one half days presenting and discussing the identification, evaluation and treatment of infants diagnosed with different head deformities. The official findings from this conference have been published as a Supplement to the Journal of Prosthetics and Orthotics 16(4): October 2004.

The unedited manuscripts and draft reports (PDF format) from this conference are posted online to provide the interested reader with additional insight into the deliberations and discussions that lead to the official findings in the Supplement. Many of the points of agreement in these online documents represent the clinical opinion of the experts in attendance at this conference on topics where valid scientific research is presently unavailable.
