Introduction

Academy Mission Statement

The mission of the Academy, as the pre-eminent professional organization in orthotics and prosthetics, is to promote high standards in patient care through advocacy, education, literature, research, and collaboration.

The primary function of the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists is to further the scientific and educational attainments of certified orthotists and prosthetists through a variety of continuing education programs. The overall goal of these efforts is to advance the quality of care provided to the physically challenged individual. The Academy accomplishes this goal by providing a framework for the free exchange of ideas and concepts, which then contributes to enhancing the professional standing of orthotists and prosthetists.

It is recognized that individual members may have very specific interests in orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) education and research in certain practice areas which cannot be met in the context of general Academy endeavors. Therefore, the Academy has established Societies to provide a forum within the Academy for individuals with such special interests and desires.
