Hurricane Katrina Support for the O&P Community

The American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists along with all people of goodwill pray for and want to help those that have had their lives uprooted by hurricane Katrina. We know that our members, their families and their patients will need the help of all of us as they work to recover their lives. We extend our deepest sympathy to those who have lost loved ones in this disaster.

The Academy is pleased to partner with the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) and the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) to assist those affected by Hurricane Katrina. The O&P Communications Center was developed to connect people who want to help with those who need help.

The center is designed to bring into contact patients, patient care facilities and suppliers and the people working at those locations who are in need of assistance with other members of the O&P community who are offering some form of non-monetary help or support. This communications center is intended to facilitate the exchange of information for offers of or requests for the following:

  • O&P employment opportunities for displaced professionals

  • O&P facility and office space

  • O&P products, equipment and supplies

  • O&P staffing assistance

  • O&P business services

  • Assistance for patients of displaced practitioners

  • Organizations where donations may be made
