This course introduces participants to important concepts to consider when treating infant skulls for deformity and disproportion. Begin with a brief historical account of intentional skull deformation and then review current concepts including differential diagnoses, developmental anatomy, ossification processes, asymmetry vs. disproportion, priority of focus and manner of correction.
This course introduces participants to important concepts to consider when treating infant skulls for deformity and disproportion using cranial molding orthoses. Begin with a brief historical account of intentional skull deformation and then review current concepts including differential diagnoses, developmental anatomy, ossification processes, asymmetry vs. disproportion, priority of focus and manner of correction.
The course provides a broad review of the anatomical structures and physiological processes that influence head shape. Learn to distinguish between deformational plagiocephaly and craniosynostosis, as well as the different head shapes that typically present for orthotic management. Learn about the developmental timeframe when cranial remodeling is likely to be effective in the different planes. Explore different rationales for treatment of the asymmetric or disproportionate skull. Clear diagrams and explanations help clarify difficult concepts. Novice and experienced practitioners alike will appreciate this technical and comprehensive presentation.
