Dear Mr. Holmes:

On behalf of the American Medical Association (AMA), I am very pleased to inform you that Orthotics and Prosthetics was recognized as an allied health occupation by the Council on Medical Education of the AMA during its meeting on August 29, 1992.

You are now ready to embark on the road to developing the educational standards and the procedures necessary for evaluating Orthotic and Prosthetic Educational programs under the CAHEA (Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation) system. Wallace G. Clark, EdD, Assistant Director, Division of Allied Health Education and Accreditation, has been assigned to work with representatives from your Academy and the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association to facilitate accomplishing these tasks. Dr. Clark will be contacting you soon.

Once again, congratulations on the recognition of Orthotics and Prosthetics. The American Medical Association is looking forward to a long and fruitful collaborative relationship with your Academy in the accreditation of educational programs in the profession.

Sincerely,

Carlos J.M. Martini, MD
