Prosthetic Care Following Bone-Anchored Prosthesis Surgery
Technological advancements continue to transform the field of orthotics and prosthetics (O&P), reshaping both clinical practice and patient outcomes. Recognizing the emergence of bone-anchored prostheses (BAP) as one such innovation, the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists convened a State of the Science Conference on July 27–28, 2024, to examine its impact on prosthetic care delivery. The conference brought together clinicians, researchers, and policymakers from across disciplines to identify clinical challenges, establish areas of consensus, and outline priorities for future research. The following proceedings present expert perspectives and findings that trace the patient journey through the BAP process—from initial consultation and surgery to prosthesis fitting and lifelong care.
