Advocacy
The Academy is involved in public policy that directly impacts the ability of practitioners to serve their patients. Your membership allows us to speak with one powerful voice on behalf of the profession. Issues of concern include licensure, education, reimbursement, and research. The Academy is also a member of the O&P Alliance, a consortium of orthotic and prosthetic organizations that advocates for state and federal policy that improves the practice of O&P.
To aid individual states in their efforts toward licensing orthotists and prosthetists, the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists has recognized the need to provide comprehensive and up-to-date information and a "blueprint" for state licensure initiatives.
The Orthotic and Prosthetic Alliance (O&P Alliance) advocates for state and federal policy that improves the practice of O&P and the quality of services provided to patients who require these health care services.
