Review of What Functional Outcomes Can Be Expected with Osseointegrated Prostheses in Transfemoral Amputations? (AT22-Jan1)
(2.0 Scientific Credits) This Academy Today course reviews the findings of a U.S.-based prospective clinical trial evaluating functional outcomes, complications, and patient-reported measures associated with osseointegrated prostheses in individuals with transfemoral amputations. The reviewed study examined outcomes following use of the OPRA implant system, with a focus on prosthetic use, mobility, pain interference, and quality of life over a two-year follow-up period.
The course summarizes key study methodology, including the use of validated outcome measures such as the Questionnaire for Persons with a Transfemoral Amputation (Q-TFA) and PROMIS instruments, and highlights the establishment of a minimum clinically important difference (MCID) for interpreting clinically meaningful change. Participants will gain insight into reported complication categories, functional improvements, and the implications of these findings for patient counseling, clinical decision-making, and future osseointegration research.
