Microlearning - Impact of Military Load-Carrying on Foot Mechanics (ML2025-09)

Microlearning - Impact of Military Load-Carrying on Foot Mechanics (ML2025-09)

(0.25 Scientific Credits) This microlearning module is based on the Academy's 2025 Annual Meeting research poster "BIOMECHANICAL CHANGES OF THE FOOT DURING SIMULATED MILITARY ROAD MARCH CONDITIONS."

We will explore how military load-carrying impacts foot biomechanics during prolonged marching conditions. Using findings from a controlled study simulating military road-march demands, the module highlights how increasing external load influences medial longitudinal arch (MLA) behavior, midfoot mobility, plantar pressure distribution, and potential injury risk. Clinicians will gain a clearer understanding of how load magnitude alters foot mechanics and how these mechanical changes may inform orthotic intervention, footwear selection, and injury-prevention strategies for individuals in high-demand occupations.

In this bite-size module, you’ll watch a short presentation from the study authors, review the full poster, and apply the findings in a clinical scenario and knowledge check in approximately 15 minutes.
