Microlearning - Efficacy of 3D printed AFOs in Pediatric Populations (ML2025-10)
(0.25 Scientific Credits) This microlearning module is based on the Academy’s 2025 Annual Meeting research poster “Efficacy of 3D Printed AFOs in Pediatric Populations.”
We will explore the clinical effectiveness of 3D-printed ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) in children by examining whether this emerging fabrication method provides functional outcomes comparable to traditionally manufactured devices. Using data collected from pediatric participants engaging in structured play activities, this module highlights how 3D-printed AFOs influence gait patterns, walking mechanics, and overall mobility. Clinicians will gain a clearer understanding of how digital fabrication technologies may support efficient production, consistent device quality, and evidence-informed decision-making for pediatric orthotic care.
In this bite-size module, you’ll watch a short presentation from the study author, review the full poster, and apply the findings in a clinical scenario and knowledge check in approximately 15 minutes.
