Microlearning - PT Perspectives on Drop Foot Orthosis Use in Inpatient Rehab (ML2025-11)

Microlearning - PT Perspectives on Drop Foot Orthosis Use in Inpatient Rehab (ML2025-11)

(0.25 Scientific Credits) This microlearning module is based on the Academy’s 2025 Annual Meeting research poster “Drop Foot Orthoses Intervention and Referral Within Inpatient Rehabilitation: Physical Therapists’ Perspectives.”

We will explore how inpatient physical therapists make decisions about drop foot orthosis interventions and referrals, including the factors that influence device selection, timing, interdisciplinary communication, and perceived barriers within the rehabilitation environment. Drawing on therapist interviews and thematic analysis, this module highlights the clinical reasoning patterns, workflow challenges, and practice variability that shape orthotic utilization during inpatient care. Clinicians will gain insight into how these perspectives impact referral pathways, patient access to appropriate orthotic interventions, and opportunities for strengthening collaboration with orthotists.

In this bite-size module, you’ll review key findings from the poster, examine real-world themes raised by PTs working in inpatient settings, and apply the concepts through clinical scenarios and a knowledge check in approximately 15 minutes.
