(0.25 Scientific Credits) This microlearning module is based on the Academy’s 2025 Annual Meeting research poster “Certified Mastectomy Fitter Provision of External Breast Prostheses for Trans and Gender Non-conforming Populations.”
We will explore how certified mastectomy fitters (CFms) support gender-affirming care by providing external breast prostheses to transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) individuals. Drawing on patient interviews and thematic analysis, this module highlights the barriers TGNC people face when seeking breast forms, including financial limitations, insurance challenges, stigma, identity invalidation, and gaps in provider awareness. The module also examines opportunities for CFms to help reduce harm and improve access through inclusive communication, affirming practices, and advocacy for coverage equity.

Together, these activities emphasize how orthotic and mastectomy fitting professionals can play a meaningful role in gender-affirming care.
