Session Overview

This session provides a comprehensive overview of the latest literature surrounding bone-anchored prostheses (BAPs), drawing from recent article summaries and the proceedings of the State of the Science Conference on prosthetic care following BAP surgery. Together, these works showcase some of the most innovative advancements shaping this rapidly evolving specialty.

Participants will gain insights tailored to key stakeholder groups across the continuum of care:

  • For hospital systems, we will examine long-term outcomes data demonstrating the efficacy of BAP interventions, explore the essential components of building a successful multidisciplinary team, and review ongoing efforts to strengthen cross-center collaboration and research.

  • For prosthetists and rehabilitation professionals, the session will delve into componentry considerations, scope-of-practice nuances, reimbursement challenges, and evidence-based outcomes for individuals using BAPs.

  • For patients, we will highlight long-term considerations, postoperative care needs, and current initiatives designed to enhance safety, quality of life, and overall treatment success.

By weaving together research, clinical expertise, and patient-centered perspectives, this webinar aims to inform, educate, and inspire. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the unique qualities of this transformative field and the collective work being done to advance BAP technology and care delivery.

Learning Objectives
  1. Understand the components needed to organize a team of care for the bone-anchored patient.
  2. Identify the necessary outcome measures needed to evaluate the bone-anchored patient and the minimum clinically important difference (MCID) for the population.
  3. Evaluate the recent 2-year outcomes from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) with the intention of applying evidence-based care.
